SAP TechEd 2022. This year’s TechEd was in a hybrid format. You could join digitally. Or you had the possiblitie to actually join the event in Vegas. And therefor also join the hands-on sessions. This year, we chose to keep the ‘Barcelona vibe’ of last year. Over tapas and sangria and a Spanish-decorated office, we watched the Keynote together, which we then discussed together. Overall
In about an hour and a half, an enormous number of topics passed the review during the Keynote. Among them there was a kind of new SAP slogan. Previously it was often “Keep the core clean,” but now it seems to have changed to “SAP BTP is THE answer. Indicating the important role that SAP BTP should increasingly play with all customers. In addition, of course, there are again a few rebrands, a notorious feature of SAP. An important one for the ABAP developers among us: Steampunk will, from now on, go through life as ABAP Cloud. For SAPUI5 developers: starting with the October release, the Business Application Studio (BAS) looks very different. This is because BAS is now completely based on Visual Studio Code!
SAP Build
The big announcement from the Keynote this year comes in the form of SAP Build. This is a low-code offering that brings together a number of SAP’s existing products under the ‘SAP Build umbrella’. Do not confuse this product with the SAPUI5 prototyping tool that SAP offered several years ago! The products in question are SAP Build Apps (AppGyver), SAP Build Process Automation and SAP Work Zone. By combining these products together, an integration advantage can be achieved and SAP has suddenly created a new low-code offering. SAP AppGyver will continue to be available as a community edition but will not include the integration capabilities for SAP BTP and other SAP products that will be available in SAP Build Apps.

Integration and Data & Analytics
When it comes to integration, it’s mostly about growing numbers. 3400+ APIs on SAP API Business Hub, 2600 pre-packaged integration flows, 200+ open connectors. In the area of Data & Analytics, a new user experience in SAP Analytics Cloud called Unified Story was presented. This tooling focuses on a process where business users can create a data visualization through the use of a low-code drag and drop editor. A developer can then seamlessly repackage this visualization to add more advanced features. This then produces a ready-to-use application.
Developer onboarding
A major challenge many companies are facing, is finding good developers. A total shortage of 4,000,000 developers worldwide is expected by 2025. SAP also suffers from this problem and needs to actively adopt SAP BTP with its customers. The biggest customer barrier to the adoption of SAP BTP is the lack of knowledge among these customers. To help to turn the tide, SAP is dedicated to develop learning materials on many different channels. One of those channels is the online course platform Coursera. Through this popular platform, SAP is going to offer BTP certifications on an external channel.
