In the blog“Recap TechEd 2019,” we took a closer look at the key highlights of SAP TechEd 2019 in Barcelona. In our opinion, Fiori really stood out, and we’ll discuss it in more detail (but briefly) in this blog.
Fiori Elements
This technique allows us to generate Fiori applications based on the data model (CDS views). To ensure the application is generated correctly, we enhance the CDS view with so-called annotations (attributes). These attributes specify whether a field should be an input field and/or what label should be displayed. This is a very powerful feature that allows you to develop Fiori applications very quickly.
Currently, can only display your data, but we’re working hard to expand the set of annotations at , which will eventually allow you to modify and enter data as well. This will eventually provide full support for the CRUD model : Create, Read, Update, Delete. (Future developments)
Fiori “mix” = hybrid
An application you create using Fiori Elements is based on a standard template, which means it likely does not include all the features you want. You can extend the application using ASPUI5.

This way, you can add free-style coding to the application to fill in the missing functionality. This results in a sort of “hybrid” application between Fiori Elements and an SAPUI5 application.
Freestyle
Freestyle coding based on SAPUI5 is also still an option. In this case, you skip all of the aforementioned (kick-start) techniques and build a fully custom application. The advantage of freestyle programming is that, as a developer, you have complete freedom to build your application. Of course, this is within the limits of the architecture specified by the client.
