SAP TechEd 2022 is over! This year, TechEd was held in a hybrid format. The content was available digitally, but attendees also had the option to be physically present in Las Vegas, where they could get hands-on experience. This year, we at INNOV8iON chose to keep the Barcelona vibe from last year alive. While enjoying tapas and sangria in a Spanish-themed office, we watched the keynote together and discussed it afterward. You can read about the highlights in this article.

General
Over the course of an hour and a half, a vast number of topics are covered during the keynote. Among other things, there’s a sort of new slogan from SAP. Previously, it was often “Keep the core clean,” but now it seems to have changed to “SAP BTP is THE answer.” This highlights the increasingly important role that SAP BTP is expected to play for all customers. Of course, there were also a few rebrands—a well-known SAP trait. An important one for the ABAP developers among us: Steampunk is now known as ABAP Cloud. For SAPUI5 developers, starting with the October release, Business Application Studio looks very different. This is because BAS is now fully based on Visual Studio Code!
SAP Build
This year’s major announcement from the Keynote will be SAP Build. This is a low-code offering that brings together several existing SAP products under the SAP Build umbrella. Don’t confuse this product with the SAPUI5 prototyping tool that SAP offered a few years ago! The products in question are SAP Build Apps (AppGyver), SAP Build Process Automation, and SAP Work Zone. By combining these products, SAP can achieve integration benefits and has suddenly pulled a new low-code offering out of its hat. SAP AppGyver will remain available as a community edition but will not include the integration capabilities for SAP BTP and other SAP products that will be available in SAP Build Apps.

Integration and Data & Analytics
When it comes to integration, the focus is primarily on growing numbers: 3,400+ APIs on the SAP API Business Hub, 2,600 pre-packaged integration flows, and 200+ open connectors. In the area of Data & Analytics, a new user experience in SAP Analytics Cloud called Unified Story was introduced. This tool is designed for a process in which business users can create data visualizations using a low-code drag-and-drop editor. A developer can then seamlessly take over this visualization to add more advanced features, resulting in a ready-to-use application.
Developer Onboarding
A major challenge facing many companies is finding skilled developers. A global shortage of 4,000,000 developers is expected by 2025. SAP is also facing this problem and needs this influx of talent to actively implement SAP BTP for its customers. The biggest barrier to SAP BTP adoption among customers is their lack of knowledge. To help turn the tide, SAP is committed to developing learning materials across a wide range of channels. One of those channels is the online course platform Coursera. Through this popular platform, SAP will offer SAP BTP certifications via an external channel.
