When you’re just getting started with Fiori, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by all the new terms and information. Fortunately, we’re here to help! In this blog, we’ll explain how to activate a Fiori application on your SAP system in five simple steps:
Step 1. Consult the SAP Fiori Apps Reference Library
If you want to start activating Fiori applications, the Fiori Apps Reference Library is your best resource. Here you’ll find a comprehensive overview of available standard Fiori applications, as well as information about the required components and other details relevant to activating the app.
Not sure exactly which app you need yet? The Fiori Apps Library offers several ways to find apps; for example, there are all kinds of filters available, and you can also search by a classic SAP transaction code.
Step 2. Check availability for your system
Once you’ve found a Fiori application you’d like to activate, you must first check whether the app is even available for your system. Select the correct delivery date under the “Implementation Information” tab . Not sure which version your system has? Under “Installation,” you can view an overview of the required components.
Next, you can check in the SAP GUI to see which product version your system is running. To do this, go to: System – > Product Version.
Once you’ve found the correct delivery date, you can actually get started with activating the application. The steps you need to follow may depend on the type of app: for WebGUI apps, for example, no additional services need to be activated.
Step 3: Activate the ICF nodes
Go to the “Configuration” tab. Under “SAPUI5 Application,” you’ll find a list of ICF nodes that need to be activated on the front-end server. Open the SAP GUI and go to transaction SICF. Here, you can search by the technical name and/or path of the required ICF nodes. Activate the node if you haven’t already done so.
Step 4: Enable the OData services
Next, check which OData services need to be activated. To do this, you can use transaction /IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE. Search for the name of the service(s) and activate them if you haven’t already. Are you working with multiple SAP systems? If so, don’t forget to add the OData service to a transport request.
Step 5: Review the authorizations
We’re almost done. To access the app, you still need the appropriate authorizations. For most Fiori apps, there are standard SAP roles available that you can simply assign to your user to quickly gain access to the app. These are also listed under the “Configuration”tab.
However, with a standard role like this, you also immediately gain access to all sorts of other applications that you probably don’t all need. In such cases, it’s more convenient to create a new catalog/group in the Fiori Launchpad Designer. You can then use transaction code PFCG to create a new role for your catalog/group.
Hooray! The Fiori app is now active. If you followed the previous steps correctly, the app should now be available on your Fiori Launchpad. Is an error message still appearing on the screen when you open the app? We know from experience that the list of required services in the Fiori Apps Library isn’t always complete. Fortunately, in such cases, you can often see which component is still missing in the error message or in the browser console.
Do you need to activate a large number of apps at once? If so, it’s more convenient to use a bulk activation tool. For example, you can use the task list“SAP_FIORI_CONTENT_ACTIVATION”in transaction STC01 to activate all apps associated with a specific role.
